What are we doing now you may ask. CANNING. Yep it is that time of year again when we are together like it or not. We grow most of our own vegetables and can them ourselves and well the garden waits for no one and when you are picking and canning for three families there is a lot to do.
We have already put up quite a bit so far and have plenty more to go. We have the sweet peas done and are working on green beans now. Like I said we are canning for three families so it takes all hands on deck. We even have to pull the wives and kids in to help out (for some reason BO loves shelling peas and snapping beans). The guys do most of the picking and the canning and the wives do most of the shelling and snapping.
Running two pressure pots to keep up.
By the end of the season we will have put up hundreds of jars of peas, green beans (both flat and round), potatoes, carrots, butter beans, and anything else we can can from the garden. It is a busy yet highly productive time of the year for us. And it is always good to know that we have good healthy controlled food for our families year round with out having to go to the grocery store every time you turn around.
Short run for the night 7 quarts 18 pints
Now if i can talk Buckman into trying my new idea. Canning venison...
